MISD Summer School InformationManor Independent School District Summer School Employment Information Summer School Program InformationThe Manor Independent School District (MISD) will be offering Summer School during the months of June and July. English Language Learner Program The English Language Learner (ELL) Summer School Program is designed to serve English Language Learners who will be enrolling in Kindergarten or first grade for the 2010-2011 school year. ELLs who are currently enrolled in MISD Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten programs are eligible to attend. The program will run from Tuesday, June 8-Wednesday, June 30 and will take place at Blake Manor Elementary School. Classes will meet Monday-Friday from 7:55 am- 3:00 pm. Eligible students will receive applications beginning the week of April 12, 2010. The application deadline is April 30, 2010. Student Success Initiative Program The Student Success Initiative (SSI) Summer School Program serves those students in grades 5 and 8 who have not met the SSI requirements of the state of Texas. The SSI requirements mandate that 5th and 8th grade students must pass both the Reading and Math sections of the TAKS test. Therefore, students who fail the first and second administrations of these tests must attend summer school and take the third administration of the test. The 3rd administration of the Math TAKS is June 29, 2010; the 3rd administration of the Reading TAKS is June 30, 2010. Due to timing constraints, all 5th and 8th grade students who fail the Reading and/or Math portions of the TAKS test during the first administration will automatically be registered for summer school. We will receive scores from the second administration in late May; those students who pass the second administration will not be required to attend summer school. The program will run from Monday June 21st- Wednesday, June 30, 2010. All classes will be held Monday-Friday, from 7:55 am-3:00 pm. 5th grade students will attend Blake Manor Elementary School; 8th graders will attend Manor Middle School. All classes will end on Monday, June 28, 2010. Students needing to take the Math portion must attend on Tuesday, June 29. Students needing to take the Reading portion must attend on Wednesday, June 30. Students needing to take both tests must attend both June 29 and June 30. Middle School Credit Recovery Program The Middle School Summer School Program serves students in grade 8 who fail two courses in the core content areas. These areas include English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The program will run from Monday, June 21-Friday, June 25, 2010 from 7:55 am-3:00 pm and will take place at Manor Middle School. High School Credit Recovery Program The High School Summer School Credit Recovery Program will serve students in grades 9-12 who have failed one or more courses in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each course credit will cost $100 for students who do not qualify for the free and reduced lunch program, $50 for students who qualify for reduced lunch, and $25 for students who qualify for free lunch. Please contact the campus for more information about registration and payment procedures. High School Acceleration Program The High School Acceleration Program will serve students in grades 9-12 who wish to earn credit for an elective course. Exit-Level TAKS Retest Preparation Computers with TAKS Preparation software will be available for student use from Monday, June 21-Friday June 25, and on Monday, July 12 from 7:55am-3:00 pm. Transportation will be provided to students wishing to take advantage of this preparation time. Exit-Level tests begin on Tuesday, July 13 (see table below for specific subject information). ACE Summer School Program As part of Manor ISD’s Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant from the Texas Department of Education, MISD will be hosting a half day summer camp for identified students K-12th. Youth invited to attend the camps will work on developing positive leadership skills, strengthening the tools they need to build strong, lasting friendships and make healthy choices. All activities will be tied to academics with hands on experiences that help the students connect the classroom with the real world.
