Summer School 2009
The Manor Independent School District (MISD) will be offering Summer School during the months of June and July.
English Language Learner Program
The English Language Learner (ELL) Summer School Program is designed to serve English Language Learners who will be enrolling in Kindergarten or first grade for the 2009-2010 school year. ELLs who are currently enrolled in MISD Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten programs are eligible to attend.
The program will run from Monday, June 8-Thursday, July 2 and will take place at Manor Elementary School.
Eligible students will receive applications beginning March 30. The application deadline is April 17, 2009.
Student Success Initiative Program
The Student Success Initiative (SSI) Summer School Program serves those students in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grades who have not met the SSI requirements of the state of Texas. The SSI requirements mandate that 3rd grade students pass the Reading section of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test. 5th and 8th grade students must pass both the Reading and Math sections of the TAKS test.
Therefore, students who fail the first and second administrations of these tests must attend summer school and take the third administration of the test. The 3rd administration of the Math TAKS is June 30; the 3rd administration of the Reading TAKS is July 1.
Due to timing constraints, all 3rd grade students who fail the Reading portion of the TAKS test during the first administration will automatically be registered for summer school. This also applies to 5th and 8th grade students who fail any portion of the Reading and Math TAKS tests. We will receive scores from the second administration in late May; those students who pass the second administration will not be required to attend summer school.
The program will run from Wednesday, June 10-Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Classes for 3rd and 5th graders will take place at Manor Elementary School from 8am-2:20 pm; 8th graders will go to Manor High School. Classes for 8th graders will last from 8am-3pm. There will be no classes on Fridays for 8th grade students.
Middle School Promotion Program
The Middle School Summer School Program serves students in grades 6, 7, and 8 that failed two or three courses in the core content areas. These courses include English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
The program will run from Wednesday, June 10-Friday, June 26, 2009 from 8am-3pm and will take place at Manor High School. There will be no classes on Fridays.
High School Credit Recovery Program
The High School Summer School Credit Recovery Program will serve students in grades 9-12 who have failed one or more courses in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
The program will include two sessions, offering one semester of credit in each session. The first session will run from Wednesday, June 10-Thursday, July 2, 2009. The second session will run from Wednesday, July 8-Thursday, July 23, 2009. Both sessions will last from 8am-3pm daily and will take place at Manor High School. There will be no classes on Fridays.
High School Acceleration Program
The High School Acceleration Program will serve students in grades 9-12 who wish to earn credit for an elective course. More information to follow.
The program will include two sessions, offering one semester of credit in each session. The first session will run from Wednesday, June 10-Thursday, July 2, 2009. The second session will run from Wednesday, July 8-Thursday, July 23, 2009. Both sessions will last from 8am-3pm daily and will take place at Manor High School. There will be no classes on Fridays.
